Christian Prentice

Infrastructure Engineer — Linux / Ansible / Kubernetes · Fukuoka, Japan

Summary

IT infrastructure engineer operating on-premises virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere / RHEL). I specialize in eliminating manual toil: parsing undocumented systems, then automating steady-state work with scripts and IaC. Previously cut ~1 hour/day of manual work per person with a self-built GAS tool, and now apply the same instinct to infrastructure — Ansible-driven provisioning, GitOps-managed homelab, and systemd-based operational automation.

Experience

ALH Inc. — Infrastructure Engineer (Apr 2026 – present)

Power-utility virtualized infrastructure ops (~15 physical / ~400 virtual hosts).

  • vSphere / RHEL / Solaris / Windows operations and maintenance.
  • Middleware major-version upgrades (e.g. ESET) with self-driven impact analysis in an environment with almost no handover docs.
  • Designed log-aggregation support: rsyslog → MariaDB output config including storage sizing, plus DB design.
  • Cut routine data-update toil with a PowerShell automation script.
  • Proposed dnf auto-update and systemd-timer based operational automation.

Adecco K.K. — Member (Feb 2022 – Nov 2025)

  • LLM safety evaluation: pre-release and deployed-model safety/accuracy testing, and feedback on escalated user chats.
  • Automation: built GAS scripts (input templating + submission-history logging) that saved ~1 h/day per worker.
  • Content moderation & market research: video-content review under SLA; authored English trend reports for overseas clients.

Feels Japan Inc. — Programmer (Jun – Sep 2020)

EC-site maintenance on WordPress/Linux. Wrote the team’s first operations manual (plugin/update procedures), cutting handover time from ~8 h to ~1 h.

Earlier

Retail operations (Costco, 2020–2021) and manufacturing (2016). Details on request.

Personal Project

workstation-bootstrap-ansible

Ansible roles that raise a personal RHEL-based Linux workstation from a minimal install: system packages, Rust/Go toolchains, chezmoi-managed dotfiles, and a firmware-refresh-and-reboot finale — idempotent, tagged for selective runs. The same “no manual steps” philosophy I push in production ops.

More experiments (custom Fedora images, KVM snapshot tooling, Zig/Rust): see my Codeberg profile.
